New Compaq subnotebook takes off

COMPAQ has launched the Contura Aero, its least expensive, fully-featured subnotebook.

The Compaq Contura Aero 4/25, which comes with a monochrome display, weighs 1.5 kilograms, and provides up to six hours of battery life. It has a colour display.

NEC Hong Kong has built on the success of its UltraLite Versa Series by introducing the UltraLite Versa 33C.

The latest in the product line has a colour display, 33-mega-Hertz (MHz) processors and a 180 megabytes (MB) hard-disk drive.

Notebook PC tops yacht race

AN AST PowerExec 3/25 SL notebook computer was being used in a somewhat unusual environment last month - aboard the Royal Navy's HMS Plover, which escorted the yachts taking part in the 1993 Dunhill San Fernando Race to the Philippines.

AST winner

MS SEETHA Subramanian, a financial controller with the local firm Espee Ltd, last week became the proud owner of a brand new AST PowerExec notebook computer.

Ms Subramanian won the machine, based on a 386SL microprocessor, in a competition organised jointly by the South China Morning Post and AST Computer.
