Lenovo to rev up smartphone and premium laptop PC sales

The technology giant yesterday reported a 34 per cent net profit increase in its fiscal third quarter ended December 31 to a record US$204.9 million, up from US$153.4 million a year earlier.

Computer giant Lenovo expects global demand for so-called "convertibles", ultra-lightweight devices that combine laptop and media tablet functions, to start expanding from next year.

Chief executive Yang Yuanqing said Lenovo "believed the emotional purchase trend" for media tablets by consumers has reached its peak.

Hong Kong immigration service loses computers with information of 3,000 travellers

The Immigration Department has lost three notebook computers containing the personal data of 3,000 travellers. No Hongkongers are among the affected.

Officials suspected the computers, used in immigration control at Chek Lap Kok airport, had been stolen. The loss was reported on Wednesday, a department spokesman said.
