A good springclean will help your Palm

I have been using a Palm V for a little less than a year now without any problems - until about two weeks ago, that is. I used to use it for everything from the usual Palm applications to sending and receiving e-mail and reading documents.

Pro-active measures defeat viral assaults

With all these Microsoft Word- and Outlook-related viruses going around, do you have any sound advice for average computer users such as myself besides 'get an anti-virus program' - the sage words you dish out every time someone asks this question? As I understand it, anti-virus programs are simply not a solution by themselves, especially when it comes to new viruses such as the Love Bug.

Stick with familiar Mac when choosing a laptop

I want to buy a laptop and don't know where to start. I need something that is light, has a large screen, is user-friendly, dependable, and doesn't offer options I will never use. Most of the time I use a computer as a word processor.

I receive manuscripts by e-mail or floppy (sometimes hard copy) and usually return them by the route they came. I have never needed a CD-Rom.

Get smart with quotes and save a lot of time

Every so often I get a question - or in this case a question with a solution attached to it - that is worth publishing for a laugh alone. To have it address a problem that has plagued people the world over, and certainly a few readers of this column, is indeed a bonus.

Content and reputation help to gather user data

There has been a lot of discussion in your recent columns about Web-site traffic, the use of frames to keep traffic up or actually serve users, and methods of measuring traffic. I am interested in your opinions regarding requiring users to register to access a Web site and what site owners can do with the data.

Reinstalling only way for IE password woes

I am running Windows 98 and have managed to make a problem for myself with Internet Explorer. I experimented with setting content ratings, for which you have to create a password. I did this, setting what I thought was a simple password, but I neglected to write it down. I also did not realise I now have to use the password before I can access any Internet sites not given my rating.

'Transformer' keyboard to meet handheld needs

I have long been a PalmPilot user and like writing about related software or gadgets I come across.

Last week, after dragging my feet in this regard for about a year, I bought a Go Type keyboard for the Palm V.

More work gets done if Net takes centre stage

I want to connect a modem to a telephone extension (a hunting line) instead of through a direct line. I don't want to lay direct lines or networking cables in the office. We don't spend a lot of time on the Net. It was suggested I use a converter that converts digital signals to analogue, but these are not available in most computer shops. Do you have any suggestions?
