Ancient Cambodian city sees light of day with laser technology

A lost medieval city that thrived on a mist-shrouded Cambodian mountain 1,200 years ago has been discovered by archaeologists using revolutionary airborne laser technology.

Technology has a clever habit of outdoing fantasy, and this month the US Navy announced that it has finally produced a working Laser Weapon System (the US military has been trying to develop something like this for decades). After proving itself by shooting down target drones in 12 out of 12 tests, the laser will be on board an active US warship by next year, probably in the Persian Gulf, ready to zap Iranian missiles.

A local expert has challenged video evidence used in the speeding case of tycoon Peter Lam Kin-ngok, saying flaws it highlighted would not occur if guidelines on the use of laser guns were followed.

The video of British experts testing a laser gun showed the devices could make mistakes if misaligned or the laser beams were reflected.

Lasers zap six planes

An Australian state may ban hand-held laser pointers after six planes arriving in Sydney were forced to alter their flight paths.

Beams from four green lasers, which appeared to come from an area just southwest of the city, were directed at planes for 15 minutes late on Saturday in what officials labelled a 'co-ordinated attack.'

3 more drivers follow tycoon in challenging accuracy of laser gun

Three more motorists who were caught speeding on the same day by the laser gun that clocked tycoon Peter Lam Kin-ngok's car have asked police to review their cases.

Man caught stealing laser detectors from cars

A man was arrested after a struggle yesterday on suspicion of stealing laser speed gun detectors installed in cars by owners wanting to dodge police speed checks.

He was held after officers from a police taskforce spotted a man acting suspiciously in the car park of Oi Tung Estate, Shau Kei Wan, and later saw him smash a car window and reach inside.
