Mobutu clan ends shopping binge

AFTER a shopping binge the likes of which Hong Kong hasn't seen since Imelda Marcos was at her prime, The Great Redeemer (aka President Mobutu Sese Seko of Zaire) and his huge entourage flew out by private plane yesterday.

But it wasn't just the shopkeepers who were rubbing their palms and smiling.

Dogs of war as Soda makes Max mad

IT may have been a happy party as far as everybody else present, including First Lady Lavender Patten, was concerned. But for the First Dog and first Dr Dog of the territory it was war.

Touching visit from caring First Lady

IT is good to note that First Lady Lavender Patten takes her role as patron of innumerable charitable organisations seriously.

Wearing her hat as patron of the Hong Kong Association for the Mentally Handicapped, Lavender visited the Century Hotel to meet Jackie Li, the only mentally handicapped person to be employed in the local hotel industry.

In touch with reality

GUESS who this quote came from: ''I think that it is quite important to keep going back so you are in touch with reality.'' Give up? That was First Lady Lavender Patten, speaking to British glossy Harper's and Queen about the importance she attached to getting back home to England from time to time.
