Masked men rob family on The Peak

Police have stepped up patrols on the exclusive streets of The Peak after a Swiss businessman and his family were held up at knifepoint and robbed by intruders who fled with HK$40,000 and valuables including jewellery.

Man falls while climbing from flat

A 36-year-old man fell into a courtyard as he was climbing from his flat to the ground to retrieve his identity card about 7am yesterday. Police said the man was climbing down the outside of his building in Fir Street, Tai Kok Tsui, using a rope tied around his body and secured to his flat's security door when the accident happened.

An 80-year-old widow had to be rescued by firefighters yesterday after she climbed down a drainpipe from her ninth floor Kwai Chung flat to retrieve her son's jeans two floors below. Leung Ngan-chun had dropped the $200 jeans while trying to hang them outside her home on the Shek Yam East Estate at 12.30am.

12-year-old II injured

A 12-year-old mainland boy hiding under a truck to smuggle himself from Shenzhen into Hong Kong, suffered leg injuries while trying to jump from the vehicle in Kwai Chung. The boy, originally from Zhejiang province, jumped when he was spotted outside Container Terminal No 8. Police said a wheel hit his left leg. He was in stable condition in Princess Margaret Hospital.

Woman hurt

A woman, 74, suffered leg injuries when she was knocked down by a light goods vehicle while she was crossing Chuen Lung Street, Tsuen Wan. She was admitted to Yan Chai Hospital in stable condition.

Shots injure pair

Two men suffered leg injuries when an off-duty detective fired three warning shots to stop a fight between suspected rival triad members at a restaurant in the Pelota Basca entertainment complex in Macau. They were taken to the Conde de Sao Januario Hospital Centre. Six men were held.
