The Urban Council's fast-growing library services took another step forward this week with the opening of its 34th library at Hunghom.

The library is on the sixth floor of the new Urban Council Hunghom Complex at 11 Ma Tau Wai Road, and takes up about 500 square metres and has an initial stock of 22,000 books.

Library services criticised

A LACK of services is the reason most people give for making little or no use of public libraries, a new survey shows.

The Hong Kong Development and Strategic Research Centre carried out a survey this year of views on Urban Council libraries.

Among the 325 respondents surveyed, 275 said they occasionally or seldom went to libraries.

New chapter for library readers

READERS will have library materials across the whole territory at their disposal with a new library ruling which comes into effect in July.

Starting from July 1, computerised library cards issued by the Urban Council and the Regional Council will be accepted by all public libraries belonging to the two councils.
