School supplies for needy

Needy children will soon be getting a summer gift after local charity Kids4Kids collected 26,436 pieces of stationery for them in just seven days. Last year, the student-led charity collected 50,000 books for underprivileged children.

Two Hong Kong schoolgirls have shown us that when it comes to being a good Samaritan, action speaks louder than words.

The two Form Five students from Lok Sin Tong Leung Kau Kui College, Karthie Lee Ka-wai and Tracy Lau Chui-ting, won the gold award in the youth category at the Hong Kong Independent Film and Video Awards (ifva) this year.

Video champions put health in focus

Tsueng Kwan O Government Secondary School and a group from Lok Sin Tong Leung Kau Kui Primary School won top honours in the 2nd Inter-School Project-Based Video Competition.

The entrants were judged on a number of criteria, including the central topic, method of expression, creativity and production skills.

Winners get their trophies

Winners of the school section competitions of the 1999 Hong Kong Flower Show received their trophies recently.

Jointly organised by the Provisional Regional and Urban Councils and the Education Department, the competition at tracted 1,515 entries from pri mary and secondary schools.

Family sues school for $2m

A school is being sued for $2 million after a van passing the schoolyard ran over a student's foot, a court heard yesterday.

In December 1990, Ng Wun-yeung, then eight, stepped on to the road in front of the Lok Sin Tong Benevolent Society school in Kowloon City. A van driven by Leung Lai-ping ran over the young boy's foot, the Court of First Instance heard.

Day ends gloriously for East House

AN IMPRESSIVE 1,500 students took part in the Lok Sin Tong Yu Kan Hang School annual athletic meet held recently at the Hammer Hill Road Sports Ground.

Competition among the four houses was keen, and 14 new records were set by young athletes.

East House clinched the overall championship.
