Road chill

For the most part, the Sai Sha Road, between Sai Kung and Ma On Shan, is single carriageway and winding; by Hong Kong standards it is a pretty road. Once in a while, though, its traffic bunches up behind a slow-moving vehicle and things get ugly.

Driver pinned by rolling truck

A truck driver became trapped between his vehicle and a parked car after he tried to stop the 5.5-tonne truck rolling forward. The 51-year-old was loading goods into his vehicle in Stone Nullah Lane, Wan Chai, at about 10am. 'The lorry suddenly moved forward. The driver stood in front of his vehicle and tried to hold it back but was trapped between the two vehicles,' a police spokesman said.

FAKE POLICEMEN HIJACK $16M IN COMPUTER PARTS

Robbers posing as police officers hijacked a lorry loaded with $15.89 million worth of computer parts after attacking its driver with a stun gun. Investigators said three men in two cars sandwiched the vehicle in Kam Pok Road in Yuen Long. Claiming to be plain-clothes officers, they ordered the lorry driver to get out and then struck him with a stun gun.

BAMBOO HITS DRIVER'S FACE IN TRAFFIC ACCIDENT

A driver was in a critical condition yesterday after his van crashed into a lorry in Tai Po loaded with bamboo poles, which then flew through his windscreen and hit him in the face. Police said his car hit the lorry, which had broken down in the north-bound lane of Tolo Highway at 4am. The man, 48, was taken to Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital.

TWO SUSPECTS HELD IN STOLEN LORRIES RACKET

Officers from the anti-theft squad arrested two men and recovered eight stolen lorries in Tin Shui Wai. Police caught one driver, 29, in a stolen lorry on Tin Ha Road. The suspect led them to a remote hillside where they found seven dismantled lorries. Another driver, 35, was also arrested.

ROCK-LOADED LORRY TOPPLES ON WOMAN

A 40-year-old woman was critically injured after a lorry transporting rocks skidded 20 metres downhill and toppled on top of her with its load in Aberdeen. She was taken to Queen Mary Hospital after the accident in Aberdeen Reservoir Road at about 10am. The 45-year-old lorry driver and his 32-year-old passenger were unhurt. Police are investigating the cause.

Mother, son on way to family breakfast before tragedy struck

The mother who was knocked down and killed by a lorry after pushing her three-year-old son out of the way yesterday was taking the boy for breakfast at her husband's cafe before disaster struck.

Kwok Ling-ling, 41, chased after son Ng Chun-yin after the boy ran on to the New Territories-bound lane of Ping Che Road at Ta Kwu Ling at about 10am, police said.
