The Great Destroyer

(Sub Pop)

Life, one suspects, has been tough on Low. One listen to the Minnesotan slowcore trio's seventh studio album is enough to banish any thoughts that they might be frequent visitors to the sunny side of the street.

Sonic slowcore gets upbeat

Formed in 1993, Low is a trio from Minnesota comprised of vocalist/guitarist Alan Sparhawk, vocalist/percussionist Mimi Parker and bassist Zak Sally. Initially garnering attention as leaders of the slowcore movement in the 1990s, Low continued to develop a sonic repertoire that incorporated pop, R&B and dissonant rock n' roll.

Red House Painters

Old Ramon

(Sub Pop)

This is a typical Painters album in that the songs take a bit of time to bleed into the fabric of daily life, but then they start to take form in your head and certain riffs or lyrics ('LA sparkles on the ground/LA glitters on the ground') get stuck on repeat in your subconscious.
