Robbers tie up four victims, flee with loot

Brazen intruders broke into a Sha Tin house early yesterday, bound and robbed the maid, then waited four hours for the family to awaken and come downstairs. They tied them up, too, and escaped with loot worth almost HK$350,000.

Three men suspected of involvement in a highway robbery of minibus passengers this month were arrested yesterday.

5 held over loansharking

Five men believed to be from three separate loanshark groups have been arrested - two for allegedly lending more than $4 million at an excessive interest rate and three for false imprisonment.

The men, aged between 23 and 63, were released on bail.

Marine thefts prompt police action

MARINE Police will step up stop and search operations on vessels leaving Hongkong waters following a growing number of thefts from ships moored in Victoria Harbour.

Since April 1, there have been four cases of marine theft and burglaries - including two early yesterday - but police believe the problem may be under-reported. In the first quarter of the year, the figure was 12.
