The mother of a young boy with leukaemia has made a desperate plea to Indians in Hong Kong to help her find a bone marrow donor.

Rijul Sahni, five, has acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, meaning his body produces too many white blood cells. He has been ill for nearly five months and needs a bone marrow transplant as soon as possible.

Funeral for HK hero set for May 6

A serious nursing shortage at public hospitals is putting the lives of bloodcancer patients at risk, prompting the Hospital Authority to consider urgent measures to cope.

The waiting time for a bone marrow transplant at Queen Mary Hospital, the main centre for the procedure in Hong Kong, has doubled from two months to four since late last year.

Cancer patient who died had rare fungal infection

A cancer patient who died yesterday at Queen Mary Hospital was suffering from a rare fungal infection, the Hospital Authority said last night.

The woman, a 42-year old lymphoma patient, was admitted to the Queen Mary Hospital for chemotherapy on January 26. She died at 1.25am yesterday.
