Sensitivity is key factor to demanding profession

Speaking a foreign language fluently doesn't necessarily mean you are qualified to be a translator. In fact, it's soft skills, such as cultural awareness and an ability to interpret the meaning in the message, that shows you have what it takes.

Translation software good for big picture rather than fine detail

I use an iBook and would like to be able to type simplified Chinese characters in both Word documents and e-mails. What software do I need? Are there any free applications on the internet or any from Apple? Can I use Chinese characters on MSN Messenger? I'm also looking for software for Chinese to English translation.

Douglas Adams' classic sci-fi novel The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy [www.vogon.com/guide], described a creature named the babel fish, that space travellers carry in their ears as an indispensable translation tool.

In the near future, you won't need the fish, so long as you have a Web browser and a good Internet connection.
