Fallibility of the father of a nation

New Delhi

As national figures go, no one is more revered in India than Mahatma Gandhi. The word 'mahatma' means 'great soul'. He's known as the 'father of the nation' who took on the might of the British. Every town in India has an 'M.G. Road' and a statue. His face adorns every rupee note, and Indian children refer to him simply as Bapu (father).

The love affair that left man of chastity exposed

In December 1920, when he was 51 years old, Mahatma Gandhi sat down and composed a love letter. 'I have been analysing my love for you,' he wrote. 'I have reached a definition of spiritual marriage. It is a partnership between two persons of the opposite sex where the physical is wholly absent.'

FIRST PRIZE (SENIOR CATEGORY) I would choose Mahatma Gandhi as the Asian of the Century. He led with his great, passionate beliefs. Anyone would have reciprocated Gandhi's sentiments, if they had met him.
