She's been bending it like Beckham since an early age and scored one of only two Hong Kong goals at the Asian Football Confederation Women's Championship in Bangkok. Despite her efforts, Hong Kong won only won of their matches - 1-0 against Singapore - although it was the team's first victory in the tournament since 1999. She is 25 years old.

Gambling integral part of Hong Kong life

I do not understand this strange antipathy towards football gambling.

Oliver Mark (South China Morning Post, July 4) claims that children see their parents gambling on football and think it is okay to follow suit. But they also see their parents and many others gambling on horse racing, the Mark 6, when they play mahjong, and even on stock and property markets.

An 82-year-old man was led away from his mahjong game in Yau San Street, Yuen Long, by three men and robbed of $70,000 in cash and a gold bracelet.

$10,000 raid at mahjong club

Four masked men fled with $10,000 in cash from a mahjong club in Kwai Chung. A female employee of the club hid in one of the rooms when she discovered the raiders, who were armed with knives, climbing into the second-floor premises in Wo Yi Hop Road at 5am. Police said the 49-year-old staff member called police after the robbers fled.

A construction boss is suing Apple Daily for defamation after it printed a photograph of him playing mahjong with a report making allegations about his finances and morality. Chan Kin-fung, a director and half-owner of Sun Luen Construction Engineering, is seeking unspecified damages.

Authorities are not doing enough to halt a deluge of pornographic games hitting amusement arcades, a group of district councillors said yesterday.

City to hold first mahjong competition

A SMALL city in north Guangdong will hold the first mahjong contest in China next year.

Shaoquan, on the border between Guangdong and Hunan, will organise a five-day mahjong competition on New Year's Day. Prizes will include a flat, a motorcycle and a colour television set, it was reported yesterday.
