Costlier goods qualify for subsidy

The mainland has substantially raised the upper price limit for subsidised home appliances in rural areas in an effort to offer more high-end options to well-off farmers.

Fire and water

The main consideration in the kitchen is that the water and fire elements do not clash; for example, the sink and stove should not be directly opposite each other. Even if it is convenient, such a design will cause arguments and conflict between members of a household. The water-fire clash may also occur (but to a lesser degree) when the stove and sink are next to each other.

Rise in appliance exports seen

Exports of mainland household electrical appliances should rise to US$3.6 billion this year, according to the Economic Information Daily yesterday. Home appliances exports totalled $3.21 billion last year, 16.7 per cent up from last year, the newspaper said.
