The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong has publicly censured former council member Irene So Wai-yin for loans made to her brother and sister. Ms So and other executive directors of listed brokerage Mansion House Group were brought before a disciplinary hearing.

Former exchange council member censured over family loans

The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong has publicly censured former council member Irene So Wai-yin for loans made to her brother and sister. Ms So and other executive directors of listed brokerage Mansion House Group were brought before a disciplinary hearing. The exchange said in October 1998, Mansion House Capital granted HK$100 million in unsecured loans to Jason So and Sheila So.

Mansion House looks to diversify

Mansion House Group may diversify because of the economic downturn, according to Evans Lowe, the brokerage and property company's chairman.

Mr Lowe yesterday said the company's stock-broking business had been hit hard by the slide in market activity.

Securities firm Mansion House Group has reported a nine-fold rise in attributable profit to $2.07 million in the six months to June 30.

Financial services and property company Mansion House Group earned an attributable profit of $2.8 million in the year to December compared with a loss of $550,000 in 1994.

Directors said the total value of securities transactions fell 16 per cent and turnover dropped to $7.8 million from $9.9 million.

Deal finances flats project

MANSION House Group said yesterday it had secured a $30 million finance arrangement with Sun Chung Estate, a wholly owned subsidiary of Bank of China.

Sun Chung Estate will provide Mansion House Real Estate, a wholly owned subsidiary of Mansion House Group, with $30 million to finance construction of Wanhua Garden phase one, a real estate development in Guangzhou.

Mansion House in joint project

MANSION House Group, the property and brokerage firm, has announced a $180 million joint commercial and residential project in Guangzhou.

The company will be undertaking the five-year construction project, that will develop 68,445 square feet of agricultural land, with the Guangdong Overseas Chinese Housing Construction Co.

ON August 19, 1993, an article under the heading ''Directors' dealing shows the way'' made reference to Mr Evans Lowe of Mansion House Group and to his dealings in the shares of that company.

That article was based on a report prepared by a leading brokerage house and repeated verbatim certain comments made by the brokers concerning Mr Lowe.
