Viva Mexico!

In advance celebration of Mexico's Independence Day on Tuesday, there are parties galore tonight. The Foreign Correspondents' Club (FCC) plays host to a fiesta with a ceremony of El Grito de Dolores (Claim of Independence), live music by Latino band Son Xango, a mariachi band, salsa performances, merengue lessons, a full Mexican dinner, Mexican beer and tequila. All for $480.

Mariachi sound has HK swinging

Hong Kong now boasts its own resident Mexican mariachi band which performs at parties, schools, special functions and Ocean Park.

The five musicians are known as Son de Jalisco - which translates as either 'sons' or 'sound' of Jalisco, the area of Mexico centred in Guadalajara, which is renowned as the heartland of traditional Mexican music.
