What Hong Kong waterfront needs is a maritime centre

Secretary of Development Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor's letter in support of the Maritime Museum's relocation to Pier 8 ('Maritime Museum will be part of vibrant waterfront at Central', May 19) again raises serious questions about the government's approach to planning the Central waterfront.

Hong Kong's important maritime heritage needs a proper showcase

I wish to comment on the financial problems being experienced by the Hong Kong Maritime Museum ('That sinking feeling', August 12), which you say is 'under pressure to move, the repository of our sea heritage is fighting to survive'.

It is no secret that Hong Kong is obsessed with benchmarking itself with New York and London.

Marine display

A marine art exhibition showcasing miniature ships, nautical history and seafarers' way of life has been organised by the Hong Kong Maritime Museum.

The Marine Art Exhibition will open a window on the evolution of marine history in the east and the west. The exhibition is divided into three sections: naval warfare, fishing and whaling, and shore and harbour scene.
