Like a 'diamond bullet right through the forehead'

Light-bulb moments are rare, says Marc Cansier, founding partner, Marc & Chantal Design. But when they happen, they can hit you like a 'diamond bullet right through the forehead', he says, channelling Marlon Brando in the film Apocalypse Now. There is always some kind of trigger, he says.

Great escapes

WHEN TOM Cruise landed in Hong Kong for the premier of Mission: Impossible II he arrived on a private jet that he piloted. From the airport, he was whisked by chopper to the rooftop of The Peninsula where a private elevator delivered him down to a press conference. Sound tempting?

His name may be known only within a small circle, but for stylish rich and famous women on the mainland, Beijing-based designer Alex Wang Peiyi is the go-to guy for red-carpet glamour and a wardrobe revamp. Actress Zhang Ziyi paired a Wang jumpsuit with a Dolce & Gabbana blazer for a public event, and wore a Wang red evening dress for a commercial shoot.

First let me get this off my chest: I am a T-shirt addict. I just discovered I own 71 T-shirts, which I imagine puts me fairly high up on the male tee ownership scale.

Trivia file

Keeping The Faith (IIA): Edward Norton (far right) went from directing Keeping The Faith to a prestigious part in the The Score, alongside Marlon Brando. The film, about an ageing thief who hopes to retire when a kid (Norton) blackmails him into one last heist, wrapped late this summer. And on working with the great Brando? 'He's amazing. Inspirational. And totally unpredictable.'

Lost in the blues

BLUES BROTHER Performance Exchange, Fringe Studio, January 14 Oh brother. 'Chicago - my kind of town'? You may not have thought so after having seen this, 'the story of a Chicago failure', as it declared itself at the outset. How is that for an epitaph at curtain-up? Strangulation at birth is an odd way to begin.

Brando of humour

Despite his obvious acting inconsistency, inflated ego and equally inflated torso, Marlon Brando has remained one of the world's most popular stars and, perhaps more surprisingly, is often quoted as America's greatest actor.

Monkey business

The special effects may have won awards but the 1976 King Kong (Pearl, 9.30pm) can't begin to ape the charms of its 1933 predecessor.

So what if the original black and white primate, a 45-centimetre stop-motion model, looked as though he would topple over every time he beat his chest, the film remains one of the best and most endearing monster movies ever made.

British bike

WITH reference to your agency report on the opening of the ''Harley Davidson Cafe'' in Manhattan (South China Morning Post, October 21), I would like to point out that in the 1954 film The Wild One, Marlon Brando rode a British motorcycle, a Triumph, and not a Harley Davison as is intimated.
