It's a nascent organisation set up recently to counter the power of Bernie Ecclestone, the commercial rights holder of the sport, and provide a united front to the FIA.

Zhuhai's hopes of being included in the Formula One calendar this year appear doomed.

International Automobile Federation (FIA) president Max Mosley said yesterday the French Grand Prix would probably go ahead on June 28 after a television rights dispute was resolved.

FIA gives green light to Belgium

Zhuhai has lost out on hosting a round of the Formula One calendar this year after FIA yesterday gave permission for the Belgium Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps to go ahead as as scheduled on August 30.

Zhuhai was hoping to join the Formula One family this year, but it appears the Chinese city will now have to wait until 1999.
