Takeover suggestion denied

The regional head of McCann Erickson has scotched speculation that the agency plans to take over the Vietnam operation of Ammirati Puris Lintas.

Industry insiders suggest Lintas' staffing level has fallen from about 12 to two, leading to speculation of a takeover. Both agencies are owned by the holding group, IPG.

DMB&B lands big Australia contract

In a major advertising coup, DMB&B has snared the multi-million-dollar Australian Tourist Commission (ATC) account to promote the country worldwide in the run-up to the Sydney Olympics in 2000.

The account is worth more than $150 million in annual billings to the agency.

Cathay Pacific's 'Heart of Asia' campaign by McCann-Erickson Hong Kong won the Gold Medallion in the tourism and travel category at the first Advertising and Marketing Effectiveness Awards in New York.

China agency tops billings

THE latest report of the 1995 Advertising Agencies Ranking names McCann-Erickson China number one in its billings above all joint-venture and foreign-funded agencies in China.

The report, released by the state bureau of industrial and commercial administration, said the agency was the fifth largest, after all agencies had been included.

Grey lands Danone deal

GREY has won the advertising account for French dairy giants Danone in the Asia-Pacific region.

The account, valued at US$85 million worldwide, is the extension of a relationship that Danone began with Grey Paris in 1989.

The pitch for the $7 million to $10 million account was between Saatchi, Lee Davis Ayer and Fortune. The incumbent agency is Lintas.

Saatchi once handled Hutchison Paging.

Survey results win support for diary method

THE possibility of syndicated radio research carried out by the diary method is becoming more of a reality following the publication of Radio Television Hongkong's (RTHK) telephone survey results.

The results were similar enough to Metro Broadcast's recent diary survey to encourage further support for the greater wealth of listener data resulting from diary methodology.
