The wait is over

IT'S THE DAY local basketball fans have been waiting for. Tonight 22-year-old NBA superstar Yao Ming of the Houston Rockets will play for the Chinese national team against Australia's Melbourne Tigers at the Hong Kong Coliseum.

He will be joined by the Toronto Raptors' Mengke Bateer for the exhibition match which is part of the post-Sars Re-launch Hong Kong Campaign.

IN A DREAM scenario, players from the Nike All-Hong Kong Youth Basketball League will today play a match against the China national team, including NBA All-Star Yao Ming, at Southorn Stadium, Wan Chai.

Fans await skills exhibition

YAO MING and the China team, plus their opponents in Wednesday night's big game - Australia's Melbourne Tigers - arrive in Hong Kong this morning.

Team representatives will talk to the media later today, but local teenage fans are looking forward to an exhibition game and skills practice to be held at Southorn Stadium, Wan Chai, tomorrow afternoon.

The Houston Rockets' Yao Ming and fellow NBA centre Menk Bateer have been confirmed as members of the Chinese national team who will play an exhibition game in Hong Kong next month.
