A head for hats


To become a milliner, you need basic sewing skills, lots of creativity and imagination, and the ability to think in 3D. You need to be very co-ordinated, and if you have strong hands and fingers, that will save you some pain.

People skills are essential, because you can only go so far if you cannot understand what people want.

Eye on style

Hongkongers have never bought into the British tradition of wearing hats, but then again there's never been a high-end boutique dedicated to selling them. The milliners' tales

Hong Kong's artists, celebrities and amateur milliners have been putting on their thinking caps to come up with a fresh selection of hats for this year's Mad Hatter's Ball. With Lavender Patten's floral creation as the crowning glory, 30 hats will be auctioned on June 22 at Post 97 and La Dolce Vita to raise money for AIDS Concern.
