Faux fur

In these days of eco-consciousness, animal-rights activism and ostentatious shows of largesse, fur looks anachronistic. But faux fur? That's another story.

Forget the fluff ... these sisters of soul are in Mink condition

It's a common complaint that Hong Kong's still-fledgling live music scene lacks stylistic consistency. At indie gigs, the choppy beats of a ska band can be soon offset by the soaring strains of a post-rock band playing after, just as the quiet ambience of an acoustic set can quickly be disrupted by the frenzied cacophony of a thrash band.

Fur flies - off the shelves

Gone are the days when wearing fur was deemed politically incorrect - at least judging from the response to the three-day Hong Kong International Fur and Fashion Fair, which ended yesterday.

An emphasis on youthful fur fashions, such as these worn by models, resulted in a 10 per cent increase in the number of trade visitors.

Fear of fur 'terrorism'

Many of them were destined for Hong Kong but now they are roaming the English countryside, reported to be preying on babies and attacking farm animals. Social set just wild about fur

Despite protests from some demonstrators, the 1998 Hong Kong International Fur and Fashion Fair went smoothly, featuring a gala dinner and fashion show. Fur flies as flier cold shouldered

AS autumnal breezes gently blow and the tai-tais bring out their furs from freeze-dried hibernation, here's a cautionary tale for whom it may concern.

Waiting at London's Heathrow Airport to board Concorde for a flight to New York, one of this town's ultra-glam things feeling a slight nip in the air had sensibly draped a mink coat over her slender shoulders.

Animals are the fashion victims at fur show

I REFER to Zelda Cawthorne's article ''Surprise winner in the mink'' (South China Morning Post, January 12). In it she criticises the methods used by the fashion design competition to number the garments.

Surprise winner in the mink

HAVE the anti-fur people put a curse on the Hong Kong Fur Design Competition? This is a tempting theory because year after year you can safely bet a couple of prizes in the evening-wear section will go to brown mink coats with classic touches, like scalloped hems. In other words, fit for a dowager.

Mink theft

DETECTIVES are investigating whether insiders were responsible for the theft of $13 million worth of mink from a Sheung Shui godown yesterday.

They believe a gang used a truck to transport the 65 cartons of fur from the godown.

Sentiment has gone too far

THERE are some serious flaws in the arguments put forward by the anti-fur trade lobby, one of which is the allegation that it is a ''cruel trade'' (South China Morning Post, January 21).
