Miss Piggy

The Muppets (Film)

Five minutes into The Muppets, and the thought dawns on you: there's an innate foolishness in seeing live characters singing and interacting with felt-clad puppets.

Miss Piggy under notice yet again

Miss Piggy must surely oblige for his patient trainer Wong Tang-ping before the end of the season.

The eight-year-old son of north of England stallion Crofthall has gone into the notebook on a number of occasions this season, usually staying on in races which were not quite suitable for him as he's proved a devil of a job to place.

Return of the big guns

Take a chance on a couple of outsiders at this afternoon's Sha Tin fixture with Bruce Hutchison's Senator and the Wong Tang-ping-trained Miss Piggy capable of running good races at big odds in the concluding events.

Wong has a couple of winners up his sleeve

Wong Tang-ping has a stable packed full of talent and two of them stood out in last night's feature event - the Hong Kong University Alumni Association Challenge Cup.

Miss Piggy was the first of them with apprentice Win Chung looking unable to get to the bottom of him as he appeared to hang in slightly over the last 200 metres or so.

Choi gets a chance to shine for Ping

MISS Piggy is well placed to improve upon a last-start third placing when tackling the sixth event at Sha Tin today, writes Robin Parke.

Yiu factor to work wonders for Leader

FEW local handlers have made such an impression in so short a time as first-season trainer Ricky Yiu. He conjured a win from the headstrong William's Tact at the last meeting before Christmas and that was no mean effort as the nervy son of Tasso had previously been with such luminaries as Patrick Biancone and David Hill.

Icons of our times

OCCUPATION: Icon. The pig means so much in Chinese culture that it has been elevated above the status of a mere hygiene-challenged quadruped.

19 Nov 1995 - 12:00am

Partners set for success

PUT Success Partners very firmly down in the book of future winners - this one will definitely oblige.

For the second time in as many starts this season, the three-year-old Irish import flew home from a position well back to snatch fifth place. Last night it was in the second event, a Class Four short sprint on equitrack which is not where he will be winning.

28 Sep 1995 - 12:00am

Ping's season in the sun gains momentum

ASTUTE local handler Wong Tang-ping is enjoying one of the best seasons of his distinguished career.

He has sent out 31 winners and is only five behind leader, Patrick Biancone, in the race for training honours which more and more looks to concern just these two plus the in-form John Moore.

Polar Star leads Wong five-star performance

POLAR Star spearheaded an amazing Wong Tang-ping-trained five-timer on Ladies' Day at Sha Tin yesterday with a breathtaking rout of his opposition.

Shining chance to ease the pain

HARD-WORKING Australian rider Peter Hutchinson can bounce back from a Happy Valley tumble on Wednesday night to provide punters with a solid banker for the second leg of the Double Trio on Ladies' Day at Sha Tin tomorrow.

14 Oct 1994 - 12:00am

Dancer looks worth a flirt

FLIRTING Dancer (Nap) should be very hard to beat in this afternoon's final event on Chairman's Prize day at Sha Tin.

The sprint championship meeting was always one of my favourites but at this time of year finding winners can be decidedly tricky.

Flirting Dancer looks one of the safer havens on the programme as he has done well since moving to John Moore.

7 May 1994 - 12:00am

Cruz brothers aim to turn over New Leaf

FORMER champion jockey Tony Cruz stole the Saturday night show at Sha Tin with a treble and he can continue in that winning vein in the first leg of the Double Trio when racing returns to Happy Valley tomorrow night.

Cruz partners New Leaf for trainer-brother Derek and the duo have been hitting the high spots recently with several good winners.

3 May 1994 - 12:00am

Miss Piggy should bring home bacon

SOUTH African riding star Felix Coetzee can continue his tremendous burst of form by taking the sixth event with Wong Tang-ping's Miss Piggy at Sha Tin this afternoon.

Ping has turned to Coetzee a couple of times in the past for significant bookings such as Northern Fire Ball and his engagement for Miss Piggy can be taken as a sign of stable confidence.

2 Apr 1994 - 12:00am

Long March set to give run for money

LONG MARCH (Next Best) looks one of the best value bets of the night in the Hong Kong University Alumni Association Challenge Cup, the feature event on the Happy Valley grass programme.

Long March caught the eye last season when staying on strongly to be fourth to Lionheart over an inadequate 1,400 metres at Sha Tin, despite racing very wide all the way from a poor draw.
