Monica Varlow Spencer and Hugh Brennand go back a long way, to primary school in fact.

9/11 visit exorcises survivor's demons

It has taken 10 years, but Monica is now at peace with herself.

The Hong Kong woman who miraculously escaped death during the World Trade Centre terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, returned to New York last weekend for the first time since the tragedy.

She went in search of closure and she found it - and more besides.

Show and tell: Monica

Once a month, Mrs Green, 9F's English teacher, organises a 'Show and Tell' event for her class. A student is invited to bring an unusual or interesting object to school and talk about it to the rest of the class. Last week, Monica brought a family heirloom to English class and spoke about it. You want a beer?

I got one, thanks.

Hey, take another. It's free. My company's picking up the tab.

This is your company?

Well, not really. I work here.

I know.

Surprised by high demand for leaflets

I refer to the letter from Monica Chow headlined 'Elusive leaflets' (South China Morning Post, March 15), on the Tourism Guide for the 18 Districts.

The 18 separate leaflets are produced to publicise and promote the special features and unique places and buildings of the respective districts.

Stop the puritanical hypocrisy

What amazes me about this farce is the puritanical hypocrisy involved. So Mr Clinton had an inappropriate relationship with Monica Lewinsky. So what? He has done nothing worse than men have been doing since time immemorial. And if every politician who lied was thrown out, there would be no one left.

Parallel lines

Tonight, our screens are overrun by the strange parallel universe that is the incestuous world of American sitcoms. Inviting celebrities to star as one-off characters, or even regulars, is acceptable practice, but tonight we get celebrities appearing both as themselves, and as characters they play in other sitcoms. It is all a bit much.
