In the UK it is possible to get a 99.9 per cent 25-year mortgage on a property that is more than 150 years old.

In Hong Kong it is seemingly impossible to get a 70 per cent 10-year mortgage on a property which is 40 years old.

UK home buyers face snag in loans

HOME buyers considering a British property with a non-British lender could face a 25 per cent increase in payments, tax experts warn.

Peter Goodman, a partner with London-based Wilkins Kennedy, said an increasing number of overseas mortgages would fall into the withholding tax net.

'This is a time-bomb for the ill-advised,' he said.

Accused get bail in fraud case

EIGHT people arrested in an ICAC investigation of alleged mortgage fraud were granted bail of between $50,000 and $250,000 yesterday.
