For most of his life, Denver Broncos receiver Demaryius Thomas has only been able to see his mother and grandmother in prison, but they are inspiring him for Sunday's Super Bowl.

Today is Mother's Day - an occasion some families treat as a chance to show mum some thanks for all her hard work, but which others dismiss as just another commercial exploitation of human nature.

Anita Mui's mother hurls shoes at lawyer

Tam Mei-kam said the halting of her allowance was "torture".

The mother of late Canto-pop diva Anita Mui Yim-fong threw objects at a lawyer yesterday after the court decided she could no longer receive HK$120,000 a month in living expenses from her daughter's trust.

Tam Mei-kam, 88, hurled a pink object, the cap of a thermal bottle and a pair of shoes at Kevin So, solicitor for HSBC International Trustee, the administrator of Mui's trust.

Mother jailed for six years for starving baby to death

An "utterly cruel" mother who starved her baby boy to death by diluting his milk formula was jailed for six years yesterday.

District Court Deputy Judge Pang Chung-ping said the sentence imposed on So Suk-yee, 32, should serve as a deterrent to protect other children. He said society did not tolerate such abominable crimes, which went against human nature.
