Motorola sold its 50 millionth Razr mobile phone in July last year, marking a milestone for the clamshell handset, which was launched in Hong Kong in 2004. The phone's latest incarnation, the Motorazr V8, combines new features and a slimmer, lighter interpretation of the Razr V3's original design.

An innovative one-touch can opener developed for the elderly by Hong Kong designers has won the hearts and hands of people worldwide, especially the left-handed.

The hands-free, battery-operated can opener, designed by Hong Kong-based Daka Development, won the prestigious Gold Award at this year's International Design Excellence Awards, a first for the city.

The main focus for new handsets used to be making them smaller and smaller.

Then features became the top criteria, with cameras, MP3 players, and big, high-resolution displays becoming the main attraction.

Now the trend is for the handsets to be as thin and light as possible.
