Japanese police arrested a US marine yesterday on suspicion of trespassing on the island of Okinawa amid anger over military crimes and demands for stricter regulations for US troops.

The incident, the second after the US military had stepped up discipline last month, immediately triggered a harsh reaction from the Okinawan government.

2 US serviceman charged with raping a woman in Okinawa

Two US servicemen have been indicted on charges of raping a Japanese woman in Okinawa, news reports said, in a case that has fanned anti-American flames on the island.

Okinawa prosecutors have charged Christopher Browning and Skyler Dozierwalker, both 23, with raping and injuring the woman last month, Jiji Press said.

A US airman is suspected of assaulting a young boy yesterday on the southern Japanese island of Okinawa, authorities said.

The incident comes just two weeks after a curfew was imposed on all 52,000 US troops in Japan over the arrest of two Navy sailors for allegedly raping a local woman. Half of those troops are based on Okinawa.
