Hospital subsidence - hundreds moved

Two Shenzhen hospital buildings housing more than 600 patients and medical staff were evacuated on Friday after construction work on a new ward shook their foundations.

In all, 246 patients and about 400 staff were transferred from two of the three buildings of the Shenzhen Xili People's Hospital in Nanshan district at around noon.

Action against child kidnaps 'inadequate'

Shenzhen police say they have detained six suspects in three kidnapping cases since October and 15 other people in busting four criminal gangs targeting students.

But many parents say the current measures by police are not enough and they have to rely on themselves to protect their children.

Shenzhen school for HK students shelved

A school-sponsoring body has shelved its plan to run a school for children of Hong Kong residents in Shenzhen because of a lack of financial support from the Hong Kong government.

Clifton Yeung Kin-chung, principal education secretary of the Po Leung Kuk, said they had been exploring the feasibility of running a school for children of Hongkongers in Shenzhen since 2002.

Drop border post at Shenzhen: academic

The head of a Hong Kong university has proposed dropping immigration checks between Shenzhen and the city to speed up the flow of people to and from the special economic zone.

Chinese University vice-chancellor Lawrence Lau Juen-yee said his proposal would require immigration checkpoints to be placed only between Shenzhen and the rest of Guangdong.
