For a man who has spent most of his life using elements of surprise to move and shock his audiences, Merce Cunningham seems to be a master of self-control. The 85-year-old is up every day at 7.30am and in bed by 11pm, with teaching, rehearsals, drawing and yoga filling his day - even though arthritis and old age have taken their toll, and he's barely able to dance any more.18 Apr 2004 - 12:00am

Four Walls, Laughing Stone Dance Theatre, Shouson Theatre, Arts Centre, April 27, This was a performance enlivened by mobile phones, a dozen people coming in late, watches going off and a smelly lack of air conditioning. So performance conditions were hardly fair for Sin-cha Hong, trying to be moody in this tiny theatre.29 Apr 1999 - 12:00am
The world-renowned Paul Taylor Dance Company of the United States will give two performances of modern dance at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Grand Theatre on Thursday and Friday at 7.30 pm.24 Jun 1996 - 12:00am
It comes as little surprise that Paul Taylor, the 'giant' of modern dance, first trained as a visual artist.
The man who has been described by some as the greatest living choreographer, uses his dancers like a painter, sweeping them across his canvas, the stage, the vision constrained only by his imagination and their physical limitations.21 Jun 1996 - 12:00am
