New Shenzhen trains off to a speedy start

The first high-speed trains between Shenzhen and Guangzhou began operating yesterday, completing the 102 kilometre journey in just 35 minutes.

Express link trains may hit 400km/h

Trains on the planned express rail link between Hong Kong and Guangzhou could reach speeds of 400km/h, cutting the trip down to 30 minutes, the mayor of Guangzhou said yesterday.

Zhang Guangning said the new railway could terminate at Panyu in Guangzhou, allowing it to link with the yet-to-be-built high-speed line heading towards Wuchang in Wuhan, Hubei province.

High-speed rail link completed

Guangshen Railway has completed an electric railway line between Guangzhou and Shenzhen, that should cut travel time from Guangzhou to Hong Kong's Hunghom terminus to 88 minutes from 105 minutes. The 140-kilometre, 700 million yuan (about HK$651 million) project, was finished on Thursday.
