Insurers, firms argue over when Sars started

Ten of Hong Kong's major hotels and developers under the New World Development flag face a multi-million-dollar challenge from six insurers over the date of the start of the Sars outbreak.

The 10 companies claim their insurance cover for losses during the outbreak should date from February 2003, when the first cases emerged.

Mainlander hit by vehicles in TST

A mainlander in Buddhist garb was injured when he was hit by two vehicles in Tsim Sha Tsui. The 39-year-old was crossing Salisbury Road near New World Centre when a westbound light-goods vehicle and a taxi hit him at 3.50pm. He suffered injuries to his head and limbs and was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Both drivers, 48 and 63, passed breathalyser tests.

Lights to go off again next month as part of green group's campaign

The lights will be dimmed in hundreds of buildings and offices daily from midnight next month as part of a green group's campaign.

Friends of the Earth said neon signs and decorative lighting would be switched off to save energy, reduce light pollution and improve the environment for residents.
