As the howler monkey's name suggests, it is a noisy creature. Its scream can be heard up to 4.8kilometres away. It holds the world record as the Earth's loudest land animal.

New guests at Ocean Park

Ocean Park has just opened its exciting new Rainforest section. It has the world's biggest rodent and the world's smallest monkey. There are 70 kinds of mammals, birds, fish and insects. There is also a cool water ride where you can have fun.

Ocean Park opens up a new world

The world's largest rodent, its smallest monkey and a mammal which lives upside down welcomed visitors to a new rainforest-themed attraction at Ocean Park yesterday.

The zone on the park's summit also features a water ride and a collection of more than 1,000 creatures representing 70 species of mammals, birds, fish and insects.

Getting down to monkey business

What is the smallest and largest monkey? There are several small New World monkeys that are about the same size.

The squirrel monkeys and night monkeys are about the same size, and the dusky titi and red titi might be slightly smaller but they are all about 25 to 50 centimetres long.

The largest of the New World monkeys is the muriqui, or woolly spider monkey.

Not first

IN the article headlined, ''New mammal caught'', which appeared in the South China Morning Post, on June 25, it was reported that the Vu Quang ox is the first new mammal identified in more than 50 years.

This is not altogether correct.

Certainly, it could be a new species in the genus Bos.
