Boy hangs himself after television ban

An eight year-old boy last night hanged himself after his mother stopped him from watching television because his father wanted to take a nap.

MOTHER AND DAUGHTER BURNED IN GAS BLAST

A woman and her daughter suffered burns as an LPG stove exploded in a Fanling flat. Police said the 47-year-old woman sparked the blast at about 8pm as she used a cigarette lighter to light the cooker at the flat in Yat Ming Road. Both the woman and her daughter, aged 24, were taken to Northern Hospital with burns.

Two teenage brothers missed their first day at school yesterday after their mother allegedly gambled away $8,000 in welfare support meant to pay for their new uniforms and books.

But the woman, 49, last night denied losing the cash gambling on mahjong, saying instead that she had 'dropped it'.

An 11-year-old boy was seriously injured yesterday in a freak lift accident in Fanling.

Lui Kam-ho had to be rescued by firemen and was admitted to Northern Hospital in a critical condition.

Three men were taken to Northern Hospital after a fight involving more than 40 people outside San Tin Post Office in Castle Peak Road early today. Police detained four men after the incident in which the fighters were armed with wooden poles and metal bars.

Man knifed in robbery

A Hong Kong resident who was injured in an armed robbery at dawn in Shenzhen returned to Lowu and sought treatment in hospital yesterday. The man, 31, suffered knife injuries to both legs and his back and was admitted to Northern Hospital in stable condition. He told police he was walking along Man Kam Chung Road when he was attacked and robbed by four men.
