After 15 years, Hong Kong Ballet have laid aside Stephen Jefferies' production of The Nutcracker and introduced a new version choreographed by Terence Kohler, a young Australian who is resident choreographer of Munich's Bavarian State Ballet.

Christmas is only just on the horizon but family fun is already on the way. The Nutcracker on Ice is coming to town next month at the Academy for Performing Arts' Lyric Theatre.

The show will be performed by the Imperial Ice Stars - 26 veteran skaters who have won medals at Olympic, European and national competitions.

See the ballet or another film

It's hard to criticise a good-hearted, well-intentioned film. Add the fact that it's Christmas-themed, and you'd better approach it with even more caution. There's a certain soft spot in us all that hopes - and prays - that such a film will be worthy of the season.

Every year around Christmas, seasonal entertainment takes hold of the city. A permanent feature of that is The Nutcracker-themed programmes and attractions.
