Since July last year, artist Dou Bu, originally from Baoji, Shaanxi province, has focused on social injustice in his oil paintings- mostly featuring prominent victims.

Artist finds little to smile about as he commits social injustices to canvas

Since July last year, artist Dou Bu, originally from Baoji, Shaanxi province, has focused on social injustice in his oil paintings- mostly featuring prominent victims. Dou, 38, has painted a series of incidents, including the 'my father is Li Gang' car accident in which a Hebei University student was killed by a drunk driver who is the son of a district police chief.

IT WAS LATE ONE night in December 2001 when Zhao Qingwei's phone rang. The caller had news from the Afghan embassy in Beijing. 'Brother Zhao, come here quickly,' the caller urged. He had found some files that had been discarded by the embassy in the days following the Taleban's ouster. '[There's some kind of manuscript] here by every leader except Mao.'
