A whole new fun ride

Hong Kong's Disneyland will open its newest attraction: a high-speed roller coaster and themed area based on the California gold rush.

Grizzly Gulch, which will open in July, is the second of a three-stage expansion following Toy Story Land, which opened late last year. The third part, Mystic Point, is scheduled to open next year.

Learn at your leisure

Walking down Main Street at Disneyland, Kevin Chan Chi-ki makes notes on its cultural features. The setting faithfully copies parts of Walt Disney's hometown of Marceline, Missouri, a former railway town with two-storey brick houses and cobblestone streets.

Disneyland pins hopes on a busy summer to push it into profit

Hong Kong Disneyland is banking on a busy summer to take it into profit after many visitors stayed away last year because of fears of human swine flu, managing director Andrew Kam Min-ho said.

Merchandise sales have improved, while spending on food has been stable at the theme park, which celebrates its fifth anniversary in September, he said in Shanghai.

Corrections & clarifications

Last-minute changes made by AECOM Economics to its report on attendance at big global attractions, on which our report, 'Asian parks draw fewer visitors but HK Disneyland bucks trend', on page A3 yesterday was based, require clarification. AECOM's report should have included total turnstile at Universal Orlando's Islands of Adventure instead of paid attendance only.
