Australian academics are calling for a Chinese surgeon accused of harvesting organs from executed prisoners to be stripped of a University of Sydney honorary professorship. Huang Jiefu, who was trained in Sydney and was until recently China's vice-minister for health, now oversees Beijing's organ transplant committee.

It was like getting a "big wedding gift" when engaged transplant patient Ray Mui received a new kidney - and a new lease of life - from a deceased donor.

The 40-year-old teacher's life revolved around daily 11-hour dialysis sessions at home. The thought of a honeymoon or having children were just dreams. Then a matching kidney became available.

Two Swedish women received new uteruses at the weekend in the world's first mother-to-daughter uterine transplants aimed at helping them have babies, Gothenburg University announced yesterday.

Uterine transplants are new, with the first successful one performed in Turkey in 2011.

Dealers paid doctors to remove student's kidney

Five men, including two doctors, have gone on trial in Chenzhou, Hunan, charged with intentional injury after they harvested a kidney from a high school student who sold it to buy an iPad and an iPhone.

The student's family is also demanding 2.27 million yuan (HK$2.78 million) in compensation from the defendants for serious damage to his health.

Government can help citizens realise the importance of organ donor register

Who says organ donor Carman Ho is dead? She is living through the bodies of six people who benefited from her organs harvested for transplants.

I have to praise the co-ordination of the hospitals and her family, who took prompt action to fulfil her wishes after her untimely death nine days after a traffic accident.
