Hong Kong is facing a crisis in primary education. No other topic has the ability to turn the faces of Hongkongers red with frustration and anxiety like education.

The pain points are clear and there are many solutions.

While attention has been focused on soaring home prices in urban areas, an even faster surge is hitting some of Hong Kong's outlying islands, and it shows no sign of easing, say agents.

"Prices on some islands have risen by 15 to 20 per cent, and show no signs of slowing," Kenneth Yeung Shiu-ming, owner of Region Property & Management Agency in Cheung Chau, said.

Stop smokers

I AM concerned about the number of people who are continuing to smoke on Hong Kong Ferry Company vessels which are bound for the Outlying Islands.

Even though smoking has now been prohibited on ferries, I still see a lot of people flouting the regulations and lighting up.

The problem is especially bad at the end of the lower and middle decks of the ferries.

Angered by company's Third World service

I WOULD like to know if someone somewhere in Hongkong Telecom, can answer a simple question for me. Does its new performance pledge, cover areas, such as the Outlying Islands? I don't believe so.
