Putting old people into the picture

One can never be too old to draw. Art in Hospital (AIH) is a non-profit organisation that uses art as a healing tool. Operation Santa Claus (OSC) will help AIH run 'Art Cherish - Holistic Art Workshops for Elderly Patients'. A total of 384 patients from Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital and Grantham Hospital will benefit from the scheme.

Woman dies after being hit by double decker

A 60-year-old woman on her way to a Mother's Day dinner was knocked down and killed by a Citybus double decker in Quarry Bay yesterday. She was crossing King's Road near Finnie Street at 6.50pm, heading for a nearby restaurant, where her family were waiting. The Yau Tong resident was declared dead at Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital at 7.48pm.

Jockey Club chief hurt in car crash

Recently elected Jockey Club chairman Brian Stevenson was slightly injured when his car and another collided in Tai Tam Road yesterday.

He was on the westbound section of the road and overtaking when he and the other car collided near Red Hill Peninsula at 2.20pm.

A family of six faces financial hardship after a 33-year-old father collapsed and died while carrying his daughter to kindergarten yesterday.

The man fell as he carried the four-year-old up a flight of stairs in North Point on their way to St Jude's Catholic Kindergarten on Kin Wah Street at about 8.45am.

Inquest to look into inmate's death

An inquest is to be held into the death of an inmate in Stanley Prison after he was found hanging in his cell yesterday. The 42-year-old man, admitted early this month after he was convicted of wounding with intent and sentenced to four years' jail, was found hanging from a torn bed sheet in his single-person cell at about 5.30am, the Correctional Services Department said.

Mother and daughter hurt in fall down slope

A 58-year-old woman and her daughter - both with histories of mental illness - had to be rescued from a Chai Wan slope early yesterday after the mother fell 30 metres in an apparent suicide attempt and her daughter tried to save her.

Police said the older woman leapt down the slope in Lei Yue Mun Park after an argument with her 31-year-old daughter at about 3am.

Pedestrian, 90, and motorcyclist killed

An elderly pedestrian and a motorcyclist were killed in two traffic accidents yesterday. The 90-year-old was crossing Tai Fong Street, Tuen Mun, when he was hit by a truck at 5.52am. He was trapped under the vehicle and had to be freed by firemen. He was declared dead at Tuen Mun Hospital. In the second fatality, a motorbike and double-decker collided in King's Road, North Point.
