Learning curve: parent-teacher conferences

Most schools have a second parent-teacher conference in the spring term to monitor students’ academic and personal work and facilitate improvement.  Successful sessions require having an attitude of being in it together.

I have received a letter asking for volunteers to join the PTA committee. The note did not say what this would entail. I am quite keen to get involved but do not have much time. Can you help?

School body probed over unpaid MPF

The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority is investigating a parent-teacher association's failure to make contributions to bus escorts' MPF accounts for more than four years.

The Sha Tin Junior School Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) said it became aware of the unpaid MPF contributions only recently and said the mistake was due to 'lack of expertise'.

ESF teachers to stage after-school rally over pay cuts

Hundreds of English Schools Foundation teachers are expected to join a protest today against pay and benefits cuts of up to 10 per cent.

The Association of Professional Teachers of ESF Schools is expecting up to 800 to rally outside the foundation's Wan Chai headquarters at the end of the school day.

AS A STUDENT you can judge your teachers as much as they judge you. In one recent letter of complaint that Young Post received, a second former alleged that his teacher swore in class, while in another, a Form Six girl said her teacher was wasting students' time making them do silly exercises.

Memorable outing at Ocean Park

Marymount Secondary School and its Parent-Teacher Association (MSS-PTA) have become the first school and PTA in Hong Kong to charter Ocean Park for their activities.

Organised by the third executive committee of the MSS-PTA, it was a fun-filled event for parents, teachers and students of both the secondary and primary schools.

Carmel Secondary School has set up a Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) with the aim of providing a better learning environment for its students.

The ceremony kicked off with performances by the school's concert band and junior and senior choirs. The winners in the Hong Kong Schools Speech Festival also displayed their talents in front of the large gathering.

PTA elects new president

Kowloon True Light Middle School Parent-Teacher Association's (PTA) annual general meeting attracted more than 500, including teachers, parents and students.

A new PTA president was elected by all members. School superintendent Reverend Wu Ping-kit commented on the good work of the PTA and the support it got from the school.
