TIBET could erupt into violence again within the next few days as a Buddhist festival reaches its climax in the region's capital, Lhasa, locals warned yesterday.

As the Chinese army maintained a high profile in the city yesterday, some Tibetans said protests against Beijing's rule and recent price rises could be sparked off again at the weekend.

Bravery award to Tony Leahy

ROYAL Navy sailor Tony Leahy will remember his 26th birthday for two special reasons.

He took part in yesterday's chase which led to the capture of two speedboats and two smugglers, and he learned he had won a top bravery award.

Tony will receive the Queen's Gallantry Medal for his heroics in tackling machete-and pole-wielding smugglers last October.

Hunt for ships in radio plea

MARINE Department officials were last night still trying to trace three Vietnamese cargo ships whose crews radioed for help and claimed they were being boarded by Chinese security personnel in Hongkong waters.
