Woods not swayed as organisers splash out million-dollar bid

Even a US$1 million bid was not enough to attract world number one Tiger Woods to next month's Perrier Hong Kong Open Championship.

This was the appearance money the organisers were willing to spend on signing up golf's biggest name for the SAR's oldest sporting event. They also went in search of Spanish teenage sensation Sergio Garcia and the legendary Jack Nicklaus.

Mineral water producer Perrier has dived into Operation Santa Claus with a pledge to donate sales to the appeal. The firm is offering a year's supply, or 16 crates of 24 cans, for $3,008 - a lucky number. All the revenue from the first 50 sales will go to the campaign, which means more than $150,000 could be raised.

Sales 'sparkle' after Perrier promotion

Perrier has recorded improved sales in Hong Kong following a summer promotion, a company official says.

The French sparkling mineral water company spent $5 million on a travelling roadshow and television advertising campaign. The two-month promotion finishes next week.

A FRENCH movie-goer was invited to the Hong Kong premiere of Goldeneye, the new James Bond film, at the Ocean Theatre on Tuesday night. The invitation to the event, sponsored by Perrier, said: 'Cocktail and movie at 8.45pm.' He and hundreds of guests turned up on time, but the film was not shown until 10pm.
