This week we test: deodorant sticks for guys

You might not be able to smell your own body odour, but the people around you can. To avoid embarrassment, swipe a deodorant sticks on clean armpits before dressing.

Dandy & Dapper

In the past, you've recommended dry-cleaners, which I've used along with many others only to be repeatedly disappointed with the mediocre to ruined-garment results. In addition, one is forced to endure their favourite chorus, 'We cannot remove perspiration odour,' which is absurd as this is a standard part of dry-cleaning provided the cleaner is competent.

I'm looking for a nice traditional wet shaving kit. I've been on the Taylor of Old Bond Street website and the razor, badger-hair brush, stand and bowl set in nickel finish (GBP189) would be perfect. I know I can order online but it's out of stock and I can't find anything else similar or as nice. Do you think I can find anything for less than HK$1,500?

This week we test: shower gel

Shower gel is a popular alternative to liquid and bar soap. As well as cleansing, a good shower gel will moisturise. Best used with a bath sponge or mitt.

H2O+ Blushing Orange Shower & Bath Gel (HK$100/250ml)

With little bursting pearls of vitamin E, this invigorating (though not too zingy to use before bed) gel leaves skin and mind refreshed and soothed.

A soft touch is key to youth

When you're a make-up artist to the stars, it is essential to look enviably well-groomed at any given moment, a task daunting enough for any woman armed with a cosmetic arsenal. For a man, however, the challenge increases tenfold.

Looking good with what nature gave you isn't easy, but Gary Chung does it with nothing more than a bar of soap, a handful of products and a smile.

Many bath products contain carcinogen in Bawang shampoo

When it was reported last month that the popular Bawang shampoos had high levels of a carcinogen, the Hong Kong-listed maker said many such products contained the substance.

Tests done on 23 shampoos and 10 shower gels for sale in the city show that most do contain the cancer-causing agent 1,4-dioxane, but all met safety standards.

This week we test: shower gel

Choose a floral or fruity scent to refresh yourself, something minty to beat the heat, and lavender or jasmine to help you sleep. Good foams provide a deeper clean, while moisturising ingredients help to keep your skin soft, meaning you need less body lotion after your shower.

A close shave

We asked a few of the men in our office what it would take for them to pick up a copy of GLOW. Predictably enough, features with 'scantily clad women' was the top response, but it was followed by 'an old-fashioned barber's shave'.

Getting down to earth

When my editor handed me a bag of gritty brown powder and a gleaming rock of crystal and told me, with a glint in her eye, that this would keep me clean for a week, I felt a twinge of panic.

This week we test: body wash

A refreshing shower is especially welcome as the steamy, humid weather sets in and threatens to drive us all nuts.

Customs said it was checking the situation regarding Johnson's baby shampoo and bath products after US consumer safety watchdog Campaign for Safe Cosmetics said some contained the carcinogens formaldehyde and dioxane. Customs' statement came after the products were withdrawn by some supermarkets in Taiwan yesterday.
