Chapple-hyam secures st gatien base

Peter Chapple-Hyam, who resigned his Hong Kong licence at the end of last season, has announced he will train from the historic St Gatien Stables in Newmarket (UK) next year. The yard was formerly occupied by Robert Armstrong until his retirement and has recently been under the care of James Nicol, who is departing for financial reasons.

David Oughton, David Hayes and Douglas Whyte join trainer Peter Chapple-Hyam in celebrating Latin Dancer's victory in the opening race last night. Sensing a piece of history had been made, Hayes and Oughton, whom Chapple-Hyam describes as his most loyal friends in racing, came down to the winner's circle and embraced their mate after Whyte brought the four-year-old home.

Drink-drive denial

The wife of horse trainer Peter Chapple-Hyam, Jane Fiona Chapple-Hyam, 35, appeared in Western Court and pleaded not guilty to drink-driving. The court heard the alleged offence took place at the Ice House Street junction with Des Voeux Road Central on August 23. Magistrate Timothy Jenkins adjourned the case until October 31, when a trial will be held.
