Hong Kong tycoon Peter Lam Kin-ngok has been pulled into a controversy over the alleged unauthorised demolition of two historic buildings in Guangzhou, one of which was the home of Sit Kok-sin, the late "King of Cantonese Opera".

City's concert venues 'too small' for Madonna

Madonna turned down offers to hold a concert in the city as the venues here are too small for her, entertainment mogul Peter Lam Kin-ngok said yesterday. Lam tried several times to get the superstar to Hong Kong, only to be told that the city's concert venues did not meet her expectations, revealed the new Tourism Board chairman yesterday.

Entertainment magnate Peter Lam Kin-ngok has pledged to use his star status to help attract visitors to Hong Kong in his new role as Tourism Board chairman. "I know I might have a conflict of interest," Lam, who takes over from James Tien Pei-chun next month, said yesterday. "But I will make good use of my position to recruit more people to promote our city, especially those from the entertainment sector."

Entertainment magnate Peter Lam Kin-ngok has been appointed Tourism Board chairman as James Tien Pei-chun steps down from the position after six years. Lam's three-year term begins in April, ending the Liberal Party's domination of the top tourism job since 2001 - Selina Chow Liang Shuk-yee and Tien each held the role for six years.
