The country is in a serious political crisis, the scandal-ridden government could fall at any moment, there might be a coup d'etat and there is a possibility of violence in the streets. I don't know about you, but I'm off to the bookshops. It is one way to cope with the stress.

PETER Mayle is at it again. The man who made a fortune from comic books about willies (as in the male appendage) and then made another fortune from books about France, has written a book about his dog.

If A Dog's Life were by anybody else - you or me, for instance - it would be a considerable failure. But because it is by Mayle, people are buying it.
